Causism® and the Mace Energy Method™ (MEM™)

Causism is a revolutionary body of knowledge, developed by John Mace, that offers a new paradigm for understanding emotional health and well-being. It is derived from two words: “cause” (to create an effect or make things happen) and “ism” (a doctrine or system)[1]. The Mace Energy Method (MEM) is the practical application of Causism.

At its core, Causism provides a rational description of the human condition based on the fact that our feelings control our lives — they influence our decisions, actions, thoughts, words, and attitudes. The goal of Causism and MEM is “to assist people to be in control of their lives and live their own dreams” by addressing the root cause of negative emotions and behaviours.

MEM is a unique approach that permanently eliminates unwanted feelings, thoughts, and behaviours resulting from unfavourable life events (upsets). Unlike conventional therapies that often involve extensive talk therapy and self-disclosure, MEM requires minimal narrative from clients. This allows clients to maintain privacy while permanently freeing themselves from negative patterns in just one session.

MEM practitioners guide clients through specific processes to access and "dis-create" negative identities or emotional patterns that they no longer want to experience.

The Mace Energy Method™ — A New Paradigm in Emotional Well-being

The Mace Energy Method represents a significant departure from traditional approaches to emotional healing and personal development. MEM is based on the understanding that negative emotions and behaviours stem from “negative identities” — energy patterns created during moments of upset. By guiding clients to locate and “dis-create” these identities, MEM permanently eliminates their negative effects, allowing clients to re-discover and inhabit their true nature.

Key features that set MEM apart from other healing modalities:

  • It focuses on cause, not effects. MEM addresses the root causes of emotional and behavioural issues, rather than managing symptoms.

  • It requires minimal self-disclosure. Clients are not required to discuss past upsetting events or share their story.

  • Results are rapid. Issues are permanently resolved in only one or two sessions.

  • Full client sovereignty is maintained throughout the procedure. Practitioners do not “do” anything to the client. The client remains in full control at all times, actively participating under the practitioner’s guidance.

  • There is no evaluation or counselling. A foundational principle of Causism is that only the individual knows what is right for them. Practitioners guide clients to their own insights rather than offering any advice.

  • The emphasis is on personal empowerment. The Mace Energy Method mission is — to assist people to be in control of their lives and live their own dreams.

The History of Causism® and the Mace Energy Method™ (MEM™)

The origins of Causism and the Mace Energy Method can be traced back to 1959 when John Mace, then a 32-year-old Master Mariner, had a profound out-of-body experience that completely transformed his world view. This experience gave John a deep sense of certainty about human immortality and the nature of time.

Inspired by this revelation, John left his maritime career and began exploring human behaviour and emotional healing. He spent years studying various modalities and philosophical approaches as well as working as a professional counsellor. However, it wasn't until 1997 while working with colleague John Avery, that Mace had another breakthrough insight regarding the mind which well and truly orientated him on the path to discovering a new paradigm in emotional well-being[2].

Over the next two decades, Mace refined and developed his theories and techniques, eventually formulating the body of knowledge now known as Causism and its practical application, the Mace Energy Method. Throughout this process, Mace emphasised that he did not "invent" these concepts, but rather discovered pre-existing natural laws governing human existence and behaviour[3].

Today, MEM is offered by licensed practitioners worldwide to help people eliminate emotional challenges and understand their innate unlimited potential.

MEM™ — A Method to Remember Your True Nature

Causism and MEM are built on the premise that every individual has infinite potential as an immortal energy unit or “Human Energy Unit”. This potential is, however, obscured by negative identities and negative emotional patterns accumulated throughout life.

The goal of MEM is to strip away these negative influences, allowing you to live in alignment with your true, positive nature. This process leads to:

  • Self-confidence and self-esteem

  • Emotional stability and regulation

  • Healthy and fulfilling relationships

  • Productivity and unhindered creativity

  • Financial stability and success

  • Purpose and direction

  • Certainty of Self

  • Persistent awareness of Spirit

  • Health and vitality

  • Absence of anxiety and depression

  • Effortless presence – living in the moment

By addressing the root causes of unwanted thoughts, feelings and behaviours, MEM empowers individuals to take control of their lives and pursue their own dreams without being held back by past traumas, negative self-concepts or the negative influence of others.

Causism® — Identities and Survival

A key concept in Causism is the existence of “identities.” These could also be referred to as energy patterns or alternative personalities/masks that we create throughout life in response to challenging, unwanted situations. Identities can be positive (pro-survival) or negative (non-survival).

Positive identities are knowingly created and help us navigate life effectively. For example, learning to drive a car will create a “car driver” identity that allows us to perform this skill without constant conscious effort. Some other examples of positive identities include a “conscious communication” identity, a “conscious parenting” identity, a “health and fitness” identity or a certain “profession” identity.

Negative identities, on the other hand, are unknowingly created during moments of upset or trauma. These lead to self-limiting beliefs, emotional pain and behaviours that adversely affect us. Examples might include an "I'm not good enough" identity, an “I’m unloveable” identity, an “avoidant” identity, a “co-dependent” identity, an “anxious” identity, a “depressed” identity, an "angry" identity, an “addict” identity, a “victim” identity, a “narcissist” identity etc.

The Mace Energy Method focuses on identifying and "dis-creating" these negative identities, allowing individuals to reclaim control over their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. By doing so, people can align more easily with their innate drive for survival, well-being and happiness.

What to Expect in an MEM™ Full Session

An MEM session is conducted one-on-one with a registered practitioner remotely via video call. Sessions may be done via phone or in person under special circumstances. The process is non-invasive and does not require extensive talking about past experiences. It does however require the client to be actively involved, earnestly want to change and be ready to take full responsibility for their problems. Here's a general outline of what to expect:

  • The practitioner will provide an introduction explaining the method, and answer any questions. At this point, you will be given an opportunity to decide whether you wish to continue with the session, or not. If for any reason a client decides to terminate the session at this point, they will not be charged.

  • You'll be asked to close your eyes and focus your attention as directed by the practitioner. By being as  attentive as possible and following the MEM Practitioner’s directions, you will get optimum results.

  • The practitioner will guide you through a methodical process to locate and address negative emotional influences.

  • You will be asked to focus on specific feelings or body sensations and you will be required to confront aspects of your personality that have been adversely affecting you. You won't be asked to describe events, situations or tell any stories.

  • The full session includes: an initial session lasting about 2 hours, followed by a second 1 hour follow up session a week later, though the length of these sessions can vary. We work on a basis of results, not time. The session price remains the same regardless of time.

After just one MEM session people report feeling light, calm, positive and relieved. However, the follow up session is an integral part of the process and must not be missed. It ensures the completion of the process and that nothing has been overlooked.

After Your Full MEM™ Session

As mentioned above, after an MEM session, people report feeling immediately light, calm, positive, at ease, capable and in control. However, the full effects will continue to unfold over time as the changes are revealed both subtly and profoundly in your daily life. Here are some things to be aware of:

  • The changes you've experienced are real, even if they feel subtle in the beginning.

  • You will enjoy living in the "now" rather than looping on past events or worrying about the future.

  • You will notice shifts in your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in various situations.

  • While all issues that you brought to the full session will be resolved, other unwanted patterns, feelings or behaviours may come to your attention in later weeks or months. Further short (15-60 minute) “clean-up” sessions are available and recommended. However, the full 3 hour session is a one-off and never needs to be repeated.

  • Sharing any insights or changes you’ve noticed, with your practitioner, will ensure we can assess whether any additional support will be of benefit.

  • With negative identities permanently cleared away, you're free to pursue your goals and dreams with renewed energy and confidence. If there is anything blocking this, book a session.

Remember, the goal of MEM is not just to eliminate problems, but to empower you to live your dreams and goals, successfully and with ease. This is the only method of its kind. Through MEM, you will remember your true nature and experience your highest expression of self.

MEM™ as a Self-Help Method

The procedures known as the Mace Energy Method are not a “self-help” model and you cannot do an MEM session on yourself.

This extract from the book, Psychology and Life, says it all:
The difficulty of observing your own mental processes is that you cannot see yourself by yourself, for when you look at yourself, you use a bit of yourself to see yourself; so therefore it is not the whole of yourself you see, is it?[4]

For example, if you are sitting in a car, you can only view the interior, not the exterior. You need to get out of the car – be exterior to it – in order to view it fully. The same applies to an unwanted identity: the moment you put your attention on it, you are in it, and can only have an interior viewpoint, instead of the necessary exterior viewpoint, as is available when under the direction of a practitioner[5].
